Excel and CSV orders

Excel orders from any customer, into Tally as Sales Orders.

Every customer's sheet looks different: their own columns, merged headers, item codes instead of names, a total row at the bottom. OrderDak reads the sheet as it is and turns it into a checked Tally Sales Order.

Free during the pilot: no card, no contract.

How Excel orders get into Tally today

  • Tally imports Excel only in its own template, so each customer's sheet is retyped or rearranged by hand.
  • Item codes and descriptions in the sheet differ from your stock item names.
  • Big indents with dozens of lines take the longest to enter and are the easiest to get wrong.

How OrderDak reads an Excel order

  • Excel (.xlsx) and CSV files are read in whatever layout the customer uses; the item, quantity, unit and rate columns are found automatically.
  • Header rows, notes and total rows are ignored; each line keeps a link to its row in the original sheet.
  • Lines are matched to your stock items, learning each customer's codes and names.
  • Rates, pack sizes, stock and credit limit are checked; the PO number is checked against orders already received.
  • The approved order becomes a Tally Sales Order, or an Excel file in a fixed layout for any other software.

Setting it up

  1. Share your stock items and Sundry Debtors from Tally.

  2. Forward the order emails with sheets attached, or drop the files in.

  3. Approve the first few orders; the column layout and item names are remembered per customer.

Good to know

  • Old Excel files (.xls) need saving as .xlsx or CSV first.
  • Up to 5 tabs of a workbook are read, as one order.
  • Macros and formulas are not run; the values saved in the file are used.

Questions

Do my customers need to use a template?

No. That is the point: they keep sending the sheets they send today.

Can I get the result back as Excel?

Yes. Every order can be downloaded as an Excel sheet in a fixed layout, which works with any accounting software.

Does it work for Busy or Marg?

Through the Excel export today. Direct posting to Busy and Marg is on the roadmap.
